so for this whole sem, JY and Joe have been tutoring our anatomy labs at uni. and apart from a lot of dirty mnemonics which I maybe might not have learnt otherwise, this experience has also taught me why we usually don't wish for our friends to hold the beating heart of our Normal Systems unit in their hands

1. At the very first lab...
Joe: Hm ok now i want somebody to come and explain to everyone the surface anatomy of the heart
Everyone: shrinks away
Joe: Ook since nobody is going to volunteer, i'll make sarah do it! :D
sarah: flail

2. JY asking everyone to label parts of the diaphragm

(going in a circle) Oliver what's this?
Aortic opening (easy peasy)
Ling what's this?
Central tendon (easy peasy)
SKIP SARAH (who is the next person to Ling)

Oesophageal hiatus (supposed to be my easy question :( )

3. What happens when you don't know the popliteal artery

JY for weeks to come: WTH man!? I can't believe you didn't know the freaking popliteal artery!! Wth!!! I was trying to be nice and gave you the easiest question and I can't believe you didn't know it. WWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

4. Getting conned

Ok Sarah. Tell me which is the right and left lung on this model
(doesn't want to look stupid by taking too long) Erm. this is right and this is left
Ok. How did u tell?
Umm (didnt) This side has 3 lobes and this side has 2
Really? Show me where the 3 lobes are
Um.... Here here and here (making them up)

Uh..yes.
Everyone, notice how both sides have only 2 lobes. That is because this is a dog lung. Not a human lung
Everyone wincing in horror: "Oooohh...burn"

5. Before examtime (we did not learn nerves this sem)

Issit? Ah...I wonder who wants difficult questions in their exam. My hand might slip and stick a pin in a nerve..Sighh. Who could it be I wonder..I really hope the rest of the first years forgive this one person for making them all flunk a station

6. During examtime, staring at a confusing and weird angiogram

what is this?? Maybe its an..aneurysm. but it can't be an aneurysm. but what if it is? but what if its not i'll look really stupid. ok no time just write it anyway
JY comes hovering
Ahh he's reading my answers! quick cancel out aneurysm!
JY stares at the forlornly blank and cancelled out paper. pretend to be deep in thought & make about-to-start-writing-a-correct-answer motions
*BEEP*
at the next station..

7. after examtime

Wth. you're gay JY!
Issit? Ahh...I dunno whose papers I'll be marking on monday. Haih. I hope my hand doesn't slip in an X pattern all over the paper. HAIHHHH...

But ok apart from all the mishaps they were actually good tutors. Joe & Tubs taught us heaps of stuff, gave us exam clues ("If I were to ask a question in the exam, I would ask about..") supplied me with a mountain of S size gloves which always run out by the time i get to the lab, answered all my questions outside lab (it's like constantly having Mr Lim around) and provided many entertaining stuart bunt stories.

So other than the feeling stupid when i get asked questions
and the feeling even stupider for not answering JY and Joe's exam questions
and the constant worrying if my answer is a stupid answer and JY will laugh at me when he marks my paper
and the added exam stress when your friend is watching you answer things wrong
and the getting picked on in lab

it was actually quite a nice thing to have tutoring friends :)
